2011 Christmas Cantata a Huge Success!
Once again, Christ Church Music Director, Melanie Eberhard, displayed her talents as a musician, director and maestro through this year’s Christmas Cantata, “A World of Christmas”. Instrumentalists: Cindy LeBlanc - Flute, Ernie Baker - Oboe, Jim Holton - Cello, and Hideo Morris percussion, added an outstanding depth to the musical accompaniment for the program.
“A World of Christmas” was a collection of seasonal music which included:
- Call to Christmas
Carols by Felix Mendelssohn, George Frederick Handel and Hemry Smart, with a traditional French carol
- Everywhere Christmas Tonight
- Let the Song Begin
Venezuelan and Puerto Rican carols
- Love Divine Came Down
Irish and Gaelic melodies and a hymn by John Goss. Solos sung by Rev. Ruth Sheets and N. Cameron Chandler
- Let Earth and Heaven Reply
Music by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev
- Wyandot (Huron) Carol
The Jesuit missionary, Jean de Brebeuf, wrote his original lyrics for this carol in Wendat in 1643.
- The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy
West Indian Carol
- The Piper’s Carol
Traditional Italian Carol
- Carol of Peace
- Tell It on the Mountain
African-American Spiritual
Featured in the following photos (courtesy Brad Hopkins’ camera), Jeff and Jaclyn Lloyd provided the narration throughout the Cantata and the Juliano family participated in the lighting of the Advent candle.
Another truly enjoyable musical event.
